Our promise

Overberg Gold & Tech is a small local pawn shop in Sandbaai, Hermanus. We collect as little personal information as possible, we never sell it, and we protect it as required by South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Information we collect

• Contact details you give us yourself — name, phone number, email or WhatsApp number when you enquire about an item or a sale.
• Transaction information — by law (Second-Hand Goods Act), sellers and pawn customers must provide a valid South African ID. We record ID details with every buy or pawn transaction as required.
• Technical basics — this website stores a secure login token in the browser for staff admin access only. We do not run analytics or advertising trackers. See our Cookie Policy for detail.

How we use it

• To respond to your enquiries about buying, selling or pawning items.
• To conclude and administer sales, pawn loans and lay-by agreements.
• To meet legal record-keeping duties under the Second-Hand Goods Act and tax laws.
• To let you know about something you've asked us to watch out for (e.g. a specific item coming in).

What we never do

• We never sell, rent or trade your personal information to marketers.
• We never add you to marketing lists you didn't ask for.
• We never share your details with third parties except where the law requires it (e.g. police requests under the Second-Hand Goods Act) or where a service you chose needs it (e.g. Yaga for courier delivery of a Yaga purchase).

How we protect it

Transaction records are stored securely with access limited to the owner and staff who need them. Our website runs over encrypted HTTPS, and staff admin access is protected with strong authentication and lockout protection.

How long we keep it

Transaction records required by law are kept for the legally required periods. Enquiry details (WhatsApp chats, emails) are kept only as long as needed to help you, unless a transaction follows.

Your POPIA rights

• Ask what personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong or no longer needed.
• Object to processing or withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) if you believe we've mishandled your information — inforeg@justice.gov.za.
